How and why headboards came about remains a mystery. They are purely ornamental, they make a bed look good, can brighten up a room and give you something to press the top of your head against when you feel insecure at night.
Headboards come in all different shapes and sizes from ornamental metal ones with intricate metalwork to fairly basic fabric covered ones and everything in between.
A headboard is, essentially, a dress piece, dressing-up the bed and completing the look created by the bedding and pillows. In this sense the choice of headboard you make is governed by factors of aesthetics and budget.
Before you even start to narrow down the choices from the thousands of ranges available to you, you will need the help of pen and paper. Decide fist on how much you want to spend. Headboards range from ones found in a budget range and costing £15 - £20 to full works of art which will set you back several hundred.
Armed with the knowledge of your target ceiling you can then begin your search on the criteria of look.
If your bed is made of leather, for example, choosing a headboard to suit should be an easy enough task. But even within that very narrow range the choice can appear daunting.
Because headboards are ornamental they come in a huge range of styles to suit most tastes. So it’s important to have clear in your mind which aspect of the bedroom you want to highlight and which feature of your bed you want to focus on. Then just go ahead, surf, click and buy!
